Trade, Economic, and Energy Affairs (TEEA)

The Trade, Economic, and Energy Affairs (TEEA) group’s research focuses on two broad areas: (1) Energy and the Environment and (2) Trade, Investment, and Economic Engagement.

Why TEEA?

Asia has long been important to U.S. strategic and economic interests. The rise of China and India, Asia’s growing weight in the global economy, and the shifting balance of economic power has only enhanced Asia’s importance. The TEEA group draws from a global network of Asia regional specialists and economists to assemble project teams. This flexible approach allows for innovative research with a global reach, bringing directly to policy leaders actionable research on a range of economic and trade issues. A blind, external peer-review process further ensures that project research is nonpartisan and fact-based. The result is first-class, policy-oriented research conducted in a cost-effective manner.

Impact

TEEA research and analyses are broadly disseminated to policymakers as well as to the academic and corporate communities to better inform the development of U.S. economic policies in the Asia-Pacific region. On-site, tailored briefings can also be arranged. TEEA initiatives leverage research and scholars not only to enhance policymaker’s understanding and knowledge of issues critical to the U.S. in Asia, but also to encourage academic research on policy-relevant issues.

Slade Gorton International Policy Center

TEEA will be expanding its activities with the launch of the new Slade Gorton International Policy Center. The Slade Gorton International Policy Center will be the living legacy of Senator Gorton’s extraordinary contributions to the Nation and Washington State. The Gorton Center will incorporate and build on ongoing NBR initiatives to sponsor research in economics and trade, energy security, energy markets and the environment.

Trade, Investment, and Economic Engagement

Asia has undergone rapid economic growth, and Asian markets present unparalleled opportunities for U.S. companies. NBR’s initiatives promote understanding of the impacts of trade, investment, regulatory, and other policies that affect the business environment for global companies operating in both Asia and the U.S.

Energy and the Environment

Environmental and energy security concerns are a key priority in Asia for the 21st Century. NBR assists policymakers in anticipating the consequences of these challenges and identifying policy solutions.

Launched in 2009, NBR’s annual Pacific Energy Summit is an invitation-only event that convenes leaders from government, business, and academia to explore innovative solutions to the dual challenges of rising energy demand and climate change. By bridging the commercial, public, and nonprofit sectors, the Summit informs policy and inspires collaboration to help support sustainable economic development.►
