Add the New York Mets to the list of teams interested in the services of Rangers hitting coach Clint Hurdle.

Mets GM Sandy Alderson told the New York Post on Monday that his team will be interviewing Hurdle on Wednesday.

Hurdle, who played for the Mets, met with Pittsburgh Pirates officials about their managerial position last Thursday and is believed to be one of two finalists for the job.

The Pirates have interviewed eight candidates, but Hurdle and longtime Pirates minor league staff member Jeff Banister are the two under consideration.

Pirates Team President Frank Coonelly said other candidates could be brought in if necessary. But he said the Pirates "should be in a position to make a final decision shortly" now that they have spoken to Hurdle.

Because Hurdle was working for a team that was playing in the World Series Pittsburgh were not able to contact him until the season was officially over.

The 53-year-old Hurdle was 534-625 as Colorado's manager from 2002 to 2009, when he was replaced by former Pirates manager Jim Tracy. The Rockies won 21 of 22 games to reach the 2007 World Series under Hurdle, but they were swept by the Boston Red Sox.
