How can we make the digitisation process easier in both the arts and the wider education sector?

Knitting CollectionIn an attempt to answer this question this project will consider the complete digitisation life-cycle, including all processes and procedures associated with the digitisation of collections, from funding to usage.

The project will undertake a detailed analysis of institutional engagers and motivators in order to develop an exemplar user requirement and a corresponding project plan and model which will address issues such as funding opportunities; cataloguing and metadata; open standards and interoperability and usability, among others.  This will result in a number of important outcomes, including: comic book collection

  • A series of case studies and practitioner guides 
  • The partial digitisation of a number of institutional collections, all of which will be made available on the Visual Arts Data Service.
  • A series of workshops, events and network meetings to help ensure the embedding of transferable skills within partner institutions and beyond
  • The creation of a community of expertise between partner institutions who will be able to share their knowledge and skills with interested institutions
  • Examination of the potential to develop a shared service to support institutional digitisation as a financially viable, cost-effective and sector-wide appropriate service
