Jose here.

Just yesterday I was talking with a few friends about the quick pace with which technological advancements are making our wildest dreams come true.

The ubiquitous-ness of the iPad obviously got our attention and I couldn't help but remember the fact that some similar devices appeared in Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey which had Dr. David Bowman (Keir Dullea) carry around flat screen TV-like thingamajigs which he used for different purposes.

Coincidentally, or not, today the film celebrates its forty second birthday. It opened in Washington D.C. to polarizing reviews and a 160-minute edit which Kubrick cut for the general release just four days later.

Slashers in April

1 April 2010 3:30 PM, PDT | JustPressPlay.net | See recent JustPressPlay news »

This month sees the release of A Nightmare on Elm Street, a remake that’s been a long time coming. With so many slasher revivals going on, be they remakes or original properties, it’s important now to look back on the genre and learn a few of its intricacies. The wealth of material to cover is staggering. The films that follow do not necessarily represent the finest work the genre has to offer, but were selected for their uniqueness and appeal.

If any of these tickle your fancy, I've included some Amazon links to buy the ones that are still in print. Unless otherwise noted, all of these releases present the films in their original aspect ratio and in their most complete versions available to date.

[Note: While extensive measures have been taken to eliminate graphic details in deconstructing the films, trailers and clips have been provided wherever applicable. They can at times be exceedingly violent, and quite spoiler-heavy. We urge you to use judgment before viewing them. Thank you.]

Inferno (IMDb)

The core difference between director Dario Argento’s celebrated Suspiria and its overlooked follow-up, Inferno, is simple: Inferno hates you. »

Any horror fan worth his or her weight in gore should be amped up for George A. Romero’s Survival of the Dead, and if you’re planning on attending the Texas Frightmare Weekend, that’s exactly what you’re going to be seeing. That and so much more!

Tfw Film Festival 2010 will kick off Wednesday, April 28 and Thursday, April 29 at the Studio Movie Grill in Lewisville. The festival will then move to the convention site (the Sheraton Grand Hotel in Irving) Friday, April 30 and Saturday, May 1.

"We've always hosted a mini film festival during our convention," said fest director Loyd Cryer. "Recent Texas Frightmare Weekends have begun with theatrical screenings of Night of the Living Dead and Texas Chain Saw Massacre, so adding two additional nights of theatrical screenings is a natural progression."

The centerpiece selection of Tfw Film Festival 2010 is Survival of the Dead -- the sixth film »
