Division
Infectious diseases, from flu to smallpox, affect all of us at one time
or another. Through the Infectious Disease Division (IDEPC), we monitor
the occurrence of infectious diseases, develop strategies for preventing
and controlling disease, and work to put those strategies into action.

- Acute Disease Investigation and Control
(ADIC) Section
Performs surveillance for communicable diseases,
monitors trends and detects outbreaks. Investigates outbreaks and eliminates
sources. Provides technical assistance and education to the medical
community in controlling communicable disease problems. Designs and
implements special epidemiologic studies to address specific issues.

- Immunization, Tuberculosis and International
Health (ITIH) Section
Works to ensure that children and adults are properly immunized against
vaccine-preventable disease, monitors the occurrence of vaccine-preventable
disease and tuberculosis, takes action to prevent or control potential
outbreaks, and works to safeguard the health of Minnesota's refugee and
immigrant communities.

- STD and HIV Section
Works to prevent death and disability from HIV and other sexually transmitted
diseases, particularly among populations with a disproportionate burden
of disease.

- Field Services Section
Coordinates efforts to work with local public health agencies in Greater
Minnesota on infectious disease epidemiology, prevention and control issues,
including action taken to prevent or control potential outbreaks.
