Jim Calhoun started talking about Gavin Edwards before the Husky Run and it wasn't the most fluid couple of sentence he's ever come up with:
"I think that Gavin will be Gavin," he said. "A better Gavin with more time Gavin will be a better Gavin."
But the point was clear: This could be a big year for Edwards, who will be instrumental to UConn's climb in the Big East and the national picture.
"The better we are, the more Gavin can play," Calhoun said. "The reason I say that is because Gavin does all the small things. Last year, we needed Jeff [Adrien] to do a lot of big things. Small things can help you win, too, but you have to have four other guys. He can get points and he plays in space very well, but we have to make sure we're physical enough. He has to fit in more than he has in the past. But the rest will be fine. He'll set screens and he'll be very good for us."
Edwards is projected as the starting power forward, though he could be pushed for playing time once Ater Majok is eligible.
"I've been waiting for this since I got here so I'm definitely ready for the challenge," Edwards said.
