TIM HUTCHINGS

A sub-four minute miler at 19, Tim Hutchings enjoyed several successes as a middle & long-distance runner during the UK’s “golden era” of the 1980’s, taking silver medals at the IAAF World Cross Country Champs in 1984 & 1989. In between, Tim placed 4th in the 1984 Olympic 5,000m and took a European Championship Bronze in 1986 at the same distance.

From 1990, as well as consulting to a leading shoe company, Tim moved in to TV commentary and has in the last 20 years, worked for a number of stations, notably Eurosport as resident lead Athletics commentator in English.

As a result, he has worked on the last five summer Olympic Games, the last nine IAAF World Championships and the last five European Championships. His understanding of track racing, and in particular middle and long distance events, is second to none and his passion for all disciplines of athletics, from Road Racing to Track, Throws and Jumps remains undimmed.

Tim is now called upon to commentate on road races all over the world, being able to identify with the requirements of performing from a number of perspectives, from the psychological and physical demands of competing at elite level, to the logistical aspects of staging a meeting, broadcasting an event, and being au fait with financial complexities of professional sport.

Tim lives in the south of England with his wife Sharon and his two teenage children.
