The President's Council has adopted a set of values for all BYU staff and administrative employees. The Staff and Administrative Employee Recognition Awards recognize the demonstration of these values for all BYU staff and administrative employees.

Highlights Body:

Throughout the year employees (including part time Category I and II) can be nominated by co-workers in their own or other departments, supervisors, or faculty members . This can be done by accessing the nomination form at http://www.byu.edu/hr/Staff-Admin-Award.

Open Enrollment Deadlines

Medical Plan Enrollment Changes (Only available Oct 1 – 31)

During October you may change your medical/dental plan enrollment to a different DMBA-sponsored plan or Altius.
Enrollment changes will become effective January 1, 2008, and may only be made online or by the automated phone system.
You may contact the Benefits Office for assistance.

2008 Flexible Spending Account Sign-Up (Only available Oct 1 – Dec 14)

If you wish to receive a tax savings on money used for dependent childcare (daycare only) or out-of-pocket medical/dental expenses,
you may do so by setting up a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) for the year 2008. Enrollment is not automatic, even if you have
been participating during the current year. For the 2008 calendar year, DMBA will only offer enrollment for FSA on-line or by the
automated phone system. You may contact Benefits Services for assistance.

Watch for enrollment instructions mailed to you from DMBA. Please do not discard this information because it will be needed for your enrollment.

If you are a new full-time employee and do not receive materials from DMBA, please contact Benefits Services (D-240 ASB, 422-4716)

New University Personnel Orientation

All campus employees are invited to attend this discussion regarding medical/dental plans, life insurance, tuition benefits and retirement plans and to hear from various campus entities who will share important items of interest .

Highlights Body:

This informative meeting is designed to educate new full-time employees regarding their benefits. A discussion regarding the medical/dental plans, life insurance, tuition benefits and retirement plans will last for approximately 3 hours. In addition to the benefits presentation, new employees will have the opportunity to hear from various campus entities who will share important items of interest. All campus employees are invited to attend this meeting.

This orientation meeting is usually held on Monday afternoons from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. in room 2001 of the Jesse Knight Building. Because space is limited, interested personnel should contact 422-4716 to make a reservation.

Building Effective Teams workshop

OPAC Events 07-08

BYU’s Office Professionals Advisory Committee and Human Resource Services announces the OPAC schedule of events for the coming academic year. This year’s theme is “Be Not Afraid, Only Believe,” which is based on Mark 5:36.

Highlights Body:

Each year OPAC sponsors brown bag presentations at 12:05 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month, October through February. All interested office professionals are invited to bring their lunch and enjoy the monthly presentations. The first brown bag event was held October 11, 2007 in Room 3211 WSC. Lynn Clark Callister, from the BYU College of Nursing, spoke on the theme “Joy in the Morning,” from Psalms 30:5.

The 16th Annual Office Professionals Conference will be held Wednesday through Friday, March 12-14, 2008 in the Wilkinson Student Center. The conference provides opportunities for personal and professional growth, and shows appreciation for excellence exhibited by professional personnel at all levels of office support. All presentations are recorded and posted on the OPAC Web site within two weeks of the event. Visit www.byu.edu/hr/opac/ to listen to past OPAC presentations.

OPAC consists of a representative from each academic college and operational division across campus and functions under the direction of Human Resource Services. OPAC advises the Assistant Administrative Vice President for Human Resource Services, promotes excellence by providing opportunities for networking, recognition and exchange of ideas and encourages personal and professional growth.

DMBA Financial Planner Visit

Highlights Body:

To assist BYU employees with planning for retirement and future financial needs, DMBA offers a Financial Planner service. Employees may request an individual meeting with a certified financial planner to assess their current financial situation and set goals to meet future needs. This is a free service.

The Planners come to campus every other Thursday. To make an appointment with a DMBA Financial Planner, employees should call 1-800-777-3622, extension 5627.

TIAA-CREF Consultant Visit

Meet one-on-one to discuss TIAA-CREF accounts and investment options with a consultant. Space is limited.

Highlights Body:

Each month TIAA-CREF consultants spend two days on campus meeting with employees to educate and inform them about tools they need to achieve financial goals. They welcome the opportunity to meet with anyone; however, they prefer to meet with employees who either have established TIAA-CREF accounts or are interested in opening an account.
