The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC®) is accepting applications and nominations for the position of Commissioner of the Conference. The ECAC is the nation’s largest collegiate athletics conference, composed of 318 colleges and universities in Divisions I, II andIII. A conference of conferences, the ECAC includes within its organizational structure seven playing leagues and ten affiliate organizations. The Conference office is located in the Asa S. Bushnell Center, located in Centerville, MA on Cape Cod.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The Commissioner reports to an Executive Council of athletics administrators from Divisions I, II, and III members of the Conference. The Commissioner is responsible for the management and administration of the Conference in providing essential services to the membership, primarily in the following areas, for both men’s and women’s sports: championships; officiating assignments; player and team awards; tournaments and special events; conventions and meetings; television; marketing and promotion.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
1. A Bachelor’s degree is required; a Master’s degree is preferred.
2. Significant experience in collegiate athletics administration (or equivalent experience in a related field that reflects administrative competence and experience in the management of a diverse constituency.
3. Strong administrative and organizational skills, and the ability to perceive
and adjust organizational strengths and strategic planning to meet the
needs and objectives of the Conference.
4. Strong interpersonal skills, demonstrated ability to consistently and effectively communicate with all constituents of the conference, including other conference commissioners, chairs of ECAC committees, and the ECAC Board of Directors.
5. Demonstrated leadership and strong work ethic with energy and enthusiasm
to advance the Conference.
6. Demonstrated marketing and promotional skills. Ability to work well with diverse groups of individuals and interest groups, and sensitivity to the philosophical differences of Division I, II and III institutions.
7. Knowledge and commitment to the rules and regulations of the NCAA,
Title IX, to gender equity, affirmative action
and other institutional parameters in administering collegiate athletic
programs.
8. Broad knowledge of computer and technological applications.
9. Knowledge and familiarity with the history and tradition of the ECAC is
desirable.
