Seven News Queensland presenter Rosanna Natoli says she will formally resign in coming days after being elected Mayor of the Sunshine Coast.
Called almost a fortnight after polling closed, she won 27% of the votes, ahead of Ashley Robinson on 24% and Jason O’Pray on 21%.
“This really is an exciting time,” she said.
“I pledge to really make a difference to this community and you will see a new style of leadership.”
The first female mayor of the amalgamated Sunshine Coast Council, Natoli succeeds retiring mayor Mark Jamieson, who served 12 years.
ABC reports she will earn a salary of nearly $250,000 and serve on council with her husband, councillor Joe Natoli.
Rosanna Natoli has been with Seven News for almost 30 years presenting news, weather and community updates.
She will also resign as a journalism lecturer at the University of Sunshine Coast.

David, an interesting story might be about the number of TV personalities who became politicians. One that comes to mind is currently serving senator Sarah Henderson, and the other (whose name escapes me) is the venerable and well loved actor who became a Labour MP. Changing from reporting the story to becoming the story.
Noeline Brown, Terry Norris and John Wood are a few that come to mind. I’m sure there would be plenty more.
Terry Norris was the one I was thinking of!
there’s been plenty! Elisabeth Kirkby from Number 96 in the 1970s joined the Democrats in the 1980s. Barry Jones went from being a quiz show champion to a career in politics.
Terry Norris has been mentioned.
Jo Palmer who was newsreader at Seven Tasmania is now in state parliament there, AFAIK.
Malarndirri McCarthy in the current federal government used to be a newsreader at ABC in Darwin.
Mary Delahunty, Maxine McKew, Paul Mercurio, journalist Zoe Daniel, sports commentator John Alexander, just a few others. And there will be plenty more.
Reece Whitby and Basil Zempilas from 7 News Perth. Derryn Hinch is another who springs to mind.
