Ethalinda Colson doğum adıyla 25 Mayıs 1893'te St. Louis, Missouri'de doğdu. Kariyerine 1915'te müzikal koemdilerde oynayarak başlamış daha sonradan sessiz sinema döneminin başarılı oyuncularından birisi olarak filmlerde yer almıştır. 1920'li yılların popüler oyuncusudur. Rol aldığı son filmi 1931 yapımı The Squaw Man adlı yapımdır.

Sinemayı bıraktıktan sonra Hollwood'da yaşayan sanatçı burada 17 Şubat 1959'da kalp yetmezliğinden 17 Şubat 1959'da 66 yaşında ölmüş, cenazesi Los Angeles'taki Calvary Mezarlığı'na icra olunmuştur.
