NEW DELHI:Amethi, once a bastion of the Gandhi family, has seen fierce electoral contests in recent Lok Sabha elections.
In the 2019 polls, BJP's Smriti Irani claimed victory by defeating Rahul Gandhi. As Irani seeks re-election in 2024, she is up against Congress candidate Kishori Lal Sharma, a close associate of the Gandhi family.
BJP leader Smriti Irani has been defeated by Congress leader Kishori Lal Sharma in the Amethi constituency with a vote margin of 1,67,196 votes.

The Amethi constituency went to polls on May 20 during the fifth phase of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, recording a voter turnout of 54.34%.

In the historic 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Smriti Irani's resounding victory, with 468,514 votes, underscored the shifting electoral landscape in Amethi. Rahul Gandhi, the runner-up, secured 413,394 votes, highlighting the closely contested nature of the electoral battle.

The 2014 Lok Sabha elections also witnessed a fierce contest between the Congress and BJP star candidates, Rahul Gandhi and Smriti Irani, respectively. Rahul Gandhi emerged victorious, garnering 4,08,650 votes, which constituted 46.82% of the total votes polled in the constituency.
