ASM Global Director Tim Worton to Step Away From Live Entertainment

ASM Global Director Tim Worton to Step Away From Live Entertainment

Tim Worton is hitting the books.

At year’s end, Worton will step away from ASM Global and a career in live entertainment to pursue a different path – diving into full-time studies at Moore Theological College in Sydney.

On completion, Worton plans on working in a pastoral, chaplaincy or ministry role.

Based in Sydney, Worton has clocked up 33 years in the entertainment business, including 25 years with ASM Global (previously AEG Ogden). Currently, he serves as group director of arenas for APAC, overseeing a portfolio that includes Qudos Bank Arena (Sydney), Brisbane Entertainment Centre and RAC Arena (Perth).

“Tim has been a great ambassador for our organisation. He has made an admirable and life changing decision to follow his faith and we applaud his decision and wish him well,” comments ASM Global (APAC) chairman and CEO Harvey Lister.

“Tim’s leadership and executive management of the arena portfolio is demonstrated by the continued growth of the Group’s arenas through innovation and ongoing development of entertainment content for audiences.”

The announcement of Worton’s career pivot was made during the 31st Asia Pacific Venue Industry Congress held at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre (BCEC).

According to organisers, this year’s edition welcomes 554 registered attendees, a new record, for a program running across 23 sessions and featuring 79 speakers.

Worton thanks Lister, Rod Pilbeam and the rest of the team at ASM Global which, he says, “has given me amazing opportunities that I will always cherish.”

Lister “has been incredibly supportive of my decision to go in this vastly different direction, allowing flexibility in my role and I am very grateful for his support and encouragement,” he continues. “Rod has been a great mentor to me over my 25 years with ASM Global and I am indebted to him for the important role he has played in my life.”

When asked to choose the greatest onstage highlight from his career, Worton has the Boss in mind. “An almost impossible task,” he remarks. “If I’m forced to choose, I’d go with Bruce Springsteen.”
