Avengers Academy writer Christos Gage has clarified his decision to return the character of Hank Pym to his former alias of Giant-Man in upcoming issues of the series.

Pym has gone through a number of aliases during his tenure as a member of the Avengers, most recently taking on the moniker of The Wasp to honour the death of his wife Janet Van Dyne.

"I decided to go back to what I think is his purest form as a character," Gage explained to CBR. "That seems to be the role in which people respond to him most."

Pym will return to being Giant-Man in Avengers Academy #7 towards the end of the year. The issue will also explain the reasoning behind the change in identity.

Gage also teased that not all of the series's new recruits will end up as heroes, suggesting that at least one of the characters will become a supervillain.

"I think it would be a cop-out for all of them to ultimately choose the heroic path," Gage clarified. "Hence my promise that at least one of them is going to go bad."

Avengers Academy is currently involved in a crossover with Thunderbolts in which the teens will confront Norman Osborn, who tortured them before the series began.

Following the conclusion of the crossover, Avengers Academy will focus on the unexplored characters of Striker and Reptil in issues #5 and #6 respectively.
