Hollywood golden girl Julia Roberts locked her shoo in to the Oscars with her Best Actress in a Drama win for ”Erin Brockovich.” (Denzel Washington, who received his award for ”The Hurricane” from Roberts last year, returned the favor at Sunday night’s ceremony.) Ridley Scott’s ”Gladiator” claimed the Best Motion Picture – Drama award, but received none of the other biggies. In the musical or comedy genre, Jim Carrey lost his chance for a threepeat to George Clooney (”O Brother, Where Art Thou?”), and Best Actress Renée Zellweger (”Nurse Betty”) pulled a Christine Lahti by being in the bathroom when her name was called. ”Almost Famous” walked away with the Best Motion Picture Award for Musical or Comedy. Cameron Crowe’s autobiographical tale earned one other trophy — a Best Supporting Actress for Kate Hudson. Other Globe veterans also stepped up to the podium, including best TV winners Kelsey Grammer (”Frasier”), Sarah Jessica Parker (”Sex and the City”), Martin Sheen (”The West Wing”), and Sela Ward (”Once and Again”). The highest TV honors went to ”Sex and the City” and ”The West Wing,” which once again beat out ”The Sopranos.” One minor surprise — despite two nominations in the directing category ”Erin Brockovich” and ”Traffic” director Steven Soderbergh was defeated by Ang Lee, whose martial arts epic ”Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” also won Best Foreign Film.
