South Alabama's Webb & Coastal Carolina's Bruce & Crenshaw Claim Sun Belt Weekly Honors

NEW ORLEANS – Following conference road wins on national television, South Alabama’s La’Damian Webb and Coastal Carolina’s Shane Bruce and Evan Crenshaw claimed the conference’s weekly honors.

Football Offensive Player of the Week
La’Damian Webb, South Alabama
(Jr., RB – Opelika, Ala.)

Jaguars junior running back La’Damian Webb rushed for a career-high 163 yards and three touchdowns in a 31-3 victory at Arkansas State. Webb’s rushing total was the sixth-highest single-game mark in South Alabama history, while his three touchdowns tied the single-game program record for rushing scores. The Opelika, Ala., product bookended the Jaguars scoring, opening with a 69-yard rush on the first offensive play of the game—which set up the first South Alabama score—and closing with 11-straight rushes for an 11-play, 52-yard scoring drive that ate up 7:16 in the fourth quarter.

Football Defensive Player of the Week
Shane Bruce, Coastal Carolina
(RS So., LB – Carrollton, Ga.)

Chanticleers redshirt sophomore linebacker Shane Bruce paced the defensive unit with a career-high 11 tackles, as Coastal Carolina held Marshall to just 87 rushing yards on 37 attempts. The Carrollton, Ga., native was also credited with 0.5 tackles for loss, a quarterback hurry and a fumble recovery. The Chanticleers also held the Sun Belt’s leading rusher—sixth-year running back Khalan Laborn—to just 59 yards on 16 carries in the 24-13 victory at Marshall.

Football Special Teams Player of the Week
Evan Crenshaw, Coastal Carolina
(Fr., P – Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.)

Chanticleers freshman punter Evan Crenshaw delivered in the field position battle, as Coastal Carolina defeated Marshall 24-13 in the first-ever meeting between the two programs. The Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., product averaged 42.4 yards on a season-high eight punts, with 6-of-8 being downed by the punt team. Thanks in part to Crenshaw’s punts—which tallied 339 yards on the night, including a career-long 50-yarder—Marshall averaged a starting field position of their own 27-yard line.
