Abstract The Scale for the Assessment of Positive Symptoms (SAPS; Andreasen, 1984) was
developed based on the Jacksonian theory. The positive symptoms all involve excess or
distortion: hallucinations are abnormal perceptions, delusions a mixture of abnormal
