U.S. VeteranBrowne, Harry, 72, March 1, 2006 at his home in Franklin TN. Mr. Browne succumbed to the effects of FTD/MND (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) with Dementia. Mr. Browne was born June 17, 1933 in New York city NY. He attended Van Nuys High School in California, and 2 weeks of college. Mr. Browne was an American free-market Libertarian writer and the Libertarian Party's 1996 and 2000 candidate for President of the United States. He was also a well-known investment advisor for over thirty years, author of "Harry Browne's Special Report" -- a financial newsletter published from 1974 to 1997, author of 12 books and thousands of articles, co-founder of the libertarian Downsize DC Foundation, host of two weekly network radio shows -- one a political and the other a financial show, host of an ETV (internet-based television) show called "This Week in Liberty with Harry Browne" on the Internet based Free Market News Network, a consultant to the Permanent Portfolio Family of Funds, and a popular public speaker. He served in the Army from 1953-1957 as a Cryptographer. Mr. Browne was a Libertarian Party lifetime member, and enjoyed classical music, opera, good food and wine, sports, television and fiction. Mr. Browne was preceded in death by his parents, Bradford and Cecil Davis Browne. Survived by wife Pamela Lanier Wolfe Browne, daughter Autumn Lee Browne of Santa Ana, CA. and brother Brad Browne of Arlington, TX. Mr. Browne came to prominence in 1970 with his first book, How You Can Profit From The Coming Devaluation, which correctly predicted the devaluation of the dollar and subsequent inflation. His second book in 1973, How I Found Freedom In An Unfree World, focused on maximizing personal liberty and became an instant classic in libertarian circles. You Can Profit from a Monetary Crisis was his third book and reached #1 on the New York Times bestseller list. He continued to author investment books such as "Fail-Safe Investing", as well as political books including: The Great Libertarian Offer, published in 2000; Why Government Doesn't Work, published in 1995, and his latest book Liberty A to Z: 872 Libertarian Soundbites You Can Use Right Now, published in 2004. He was writing a book called The War Racket at the time of his death. Services will be held August of 2006 in Kernersville, NC, with burial at “God’s Acre” family graveyard, Kernersville Moravian Church, Kernersville, NC.
