《清史稿人名索引》是蘇慶彬老師積五十年之功編製而成，是目前有關《清史稿》眾多索引之中，最為齊備和完整的工具書。近年，隨著數據庫興起，彈指之間，即可搜索人名。但是，依靠數據庫搜索，往往出現一些難題。首先，異時代的同名同姓者，數據庫無法分辨。其次，史文出現人名時，許多只道其名，不及其姓，《清史稿》中同名者多不勝數，若以人名搜尋，無關資料過多，反而有礙。再者，人名索引按姓和名的筆劃排列，對研究者會帶來不可預計的收穫。最後，本書在姓名之後，再加上異名、字、號，大大便利研究者，這是數據庫無法做到的。

About the author

蘇慶彬，1967年獲香港中文大學碩士學位，同時出任中文大學新亞書院歷史系教職，直至1993年榮休。期間主要講授「中國通史」、「秦漢史」、「魏晉南北朝史」、「中國歷史要論」及「中國文化史」諸科。
