Publication History

The British Medical Journal began publishing under that title in 1857, succeeding the Association Medical Journal. No issue or contribution copyright renewals were found for this serial. (More details) For some of its run it was published in various country-specific editions, and in the 1980s it also was published in different editions for different specialties. The British Medical Journal was renamed BMJ in 1988.

• 1857-1988: PubMedCentral has articles from the British Medical Journal, and predecessor and successor titles. For some issues, they appear to have all articles; for others, they might only have research articles available.
• 1857-1875, 1877-1928: HathiTrust has most issues through 1928 freely readable online as scans of print volumes. Access to volumes after 1898 might be restricted outside the United States. Some later volumes may be searchable but not readable online here.
• 1857-1879: JSTOR has issues through 1879 freely readable online at present. Access to later issues may require subscription or payment.
