Abstract
This chapter provides an extensive review of the physiological complications of brain death including a hyperdynamic precordium that may trigger the vent and make it appear that the patient is “breathing” and how to troubleshoot this finding. Management of diabetes insipidus is also reviewed. This chapter provides a checklist to optimize the patient for the initial testing and apnea testing. Common confounders of brain death are reviewed. The types of ancillary testing are reviewed.
