Viral video shows waterlogging in swanky office in Kochi Infopark, workers seen stranded

With rain intensifying throughout Kerala, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) put five red alerts in place.

It has been raining almost continuously in some parts of Kerala since May 22 afternoon, especially Kochi. Many streets across the town had knee-deep water in a matter of hours.

Kakkanad in Kochi houses many IT parks and industrial projects, and is also a densely-populated residential area. A video showing water pouring through the ceiling of a swanky office space in Infopark in Kakkanad has now gone viral. The office staff can be seen scrambling to get out. From the canteen to the gates and the entrance, hundreds of workers were stranded as water gushed in from all sides.

Responding to the video, one user said, “They can have rain dance.” Another user wrote, “India’s first Rain forest themed tech park.” And a third commented, “Work from water pool.”

Another video shared on YouTube by @pradeepthayyill showed vehicles almost submerged in the rain water. The title of the video said ‘Infopark Kochi Flood’.

On Wednesday evening, several areas in Kochi, such as Infopark in Kakkanad, MG Road, TD Road, KSRTC bus station, Ernakulam Junction railway station, Kaloor-Kadavanthra Road, and areas near JLN Stadium experienced severe water logging due to the first heavy rain of the season. The heavy rain caused traffic jams at Kalamassery junction, Pathadipalam, Elamkulam, Vyttila, and other parts of the city.
