What’s open and closed on Victoria Day in Halifax

Here’s a look at what’s open and closed for Victoria Day long in the Halifax area.

Businesses

Many stores will be open on Mon. May 20, including Halifax-area malls and NSLCs.

Major grocery stores and pharmacies will be open on Monday.

Recreation

All branches and departments of Halifax Public Libraries will be closed on Monday. The organization also says summer hours begin this weekend.

The municipality says many recreation facilities will be closed on Monday so people are advised to call for specific information.

The Sackville Sports Stadium will be open regular hours, but registered programs will not be offered.

Services

There will be no garbage, organics or recyclables collection on Monday. People who normally get that service on Monday will instead have collection on Sat. May 18.

Canada Post will not be delivering mail on Monday.

Transportation

Halifax Transit will be operating on holiday schedule on Monday.

Paid on-street parking will be free on Monday.

Blue Nose Marathon

The Blue Nose Marathon happenend in Halifax on Saturday and Sunday.

On Saturday, parts of Cogswell St., Ahern Ave., North Park St. and Cunard St. were fully closed into the early afternoon. Rolling closures happened on Gottingen St., Spring Garden Rd. and University Ave.

More closures on Sunday in the morning and afternoon including the MacDonald Bridge, Agricola St. and Nantucket Ave.

Halifax Transit offered free bus and ferry service for marathon volunteers and participants.
