By CityNews Halifax Staff

The Blue Nose Marathon takes place this weekend which means residents can expect street closures, parking bans and traffic disruptions.

HRM said on Saturday, parts of Cogswell Street, Ahern Avenue, North Park Street and Cunard Street will be fully closed early in the morning up until early in the afternoon.

There will also be rolling closures in other parts of the city on Saturday including Gottingen Street, Spring Garden Road, and University Avenue, among others.

You can expect even more closures on Sunday early in the morning through the afternoon including the Macdonald Bridge, Agricola Street and Nantucket Avenue.

There will also be a number of parking bans in effect for several areas.

According to the city, Halifax Transit will be offering free bus and ferry service for volunteers and participants in the marathon on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. They must show their credentials or race bibs in order to ride free.

In addition, the MacDonald Bridge will also close for the morning on Sunday for the marathon.

According to Halifax Harbour Bridges, the span will shut down at 7:30 a.m. but is expected to reopen by noon.

HHB says they expect more than 2,200 runners participating in the marathon to cross the bridge as part of the annual race.
