She has strongly advocated for self-directed learning and alternative education models throughout her career. Before founding 1517, Danielle was on the founding team of the Thiel Fellowship alongside Peter Thiel, where she assumed leadership responsibilities for its design and operations. Additionally, she founded and served as the director of Innovations Academy in San Diego, a K-8 charter school that emphasizes student-led project-based learning and other alternative educational programs.
