Yet the most rewarding thing about watching Sandy go through this process in the late 1950s was getting to experience the expansive sampling of music that accompanied her different looks. The tunes used in this fun-loving musical turned out to be as timeless as the clothes she wore. But in the end, a classic, cross-dressing farce was all that stood, and you don't need much more to justify the no-doubt taxing process of turning actor Dustin Hoffman as out-of-work actor Michael Dorsey into a Dorothy Michaels. Also, all the Oscar nominations help. First order of business for the besties? A makeover, of course! Though some later argued with the transformation (hey, some people like freaks!), it was an important bridging moment between the two girls from very different worlds. After deciding to take control of her life, she enrolls in college, pulls off an impressive D.I.Y. makeover, and scores the leading man. 10 of 10 A Cinderella Story (2004) Everett Collection(2) EW.com says: The teen set found a new Cinder-figure in this Hilary Duff movie, when the former Disney star played likable Sam Montgomery, who gussied up to bag herself a Chad Michael Murray. There weren't any groundbreaking changes made to get Duff into princess-for-the-night-shape, but it did prove the power of spiral curls. InStyle.com: It's all there in the title of this modern movie retelling of the classic fairy tale. After enduring years of torment at the hands of her evil stepmother and two jealous stepsisters, Sam takes a night off from being ''Diner Girl,'' puts on a white gown and heads to a high school masquerade dance to meet her Prince Charming. And they all lived happily ever after.
