FOSI stands for "Forum Sedimentologiwan Indonesia" or Indonesian Sedimentologists Forum, a sedimentological section of IAGI (Ikatan Ahli Geologi Indonesia), the Indonesian Geologist Association. The organisation was established in 1995, and issued the first bulletin in 1996 called Berita Sedimentologi (Sedimentological Newsletter). The bulletin became the Indonesian Journal for Sedimentary Geology, which is published online three times in a year. The journall is accessible from www.iagi.or.id/fosi
FOSI organized regional conferences:
- 1st Regional Conference, 1999, Tectonics and Sedimentation of Indonesian Basins, a 50th memorial of R. W. van Bemmelen book on The Geology of Indonesia - Bandung
- 2nd Regional Conference, 2001, Deepwater Depositional System of Se Asia - Jakarta
In 2000 FOSI awarded Dr. Surono (GRDC) for his active contribution on sedimentological paper in IAGI.
Internationally FOSI has linkage with international sedimentological organizations such as SEPM and IAS
The Fosi were a Germanic tribe. Tacitus, in his Germania mentions them as a neighboring tribe to the Cherusci, who suffered from the Cherusci's downfall.[1]
