Line 64:
Great Britain went on to become a rich 'Great Power' in the 19th and 20th centuries. A vast empire, covering one quarter of the globe emerged after the Industrial Revolution, under the reign of Queen Victoria. As territories declared their freedom from The British Empire, the power was lost. The United Kingdom was one of the major parties participating in The First World War, fighting for Triple Entente. After World War One was won, Germany rose up again and caused The United Kingdom to fight in (and win) with the aid of the USA's war-effort, The Second World War.

[[World War
The Battle of Britain ensued. (the name given to the intense aerial combat above England, the English Channel and some parts of France to prevent the Axis Powers gaining air superiority. This was required in order to launch an invasion.) The combat bore two new types of fighter aircraft from Britain. These were: the Supermarine Spitfire and the Hawker Hurricane. (The first two planes shot down by Spitfires were in fact Hurricanes!) Germany ended the battle, while the RAF was about to crumble, to fight in Russia, on the 31st October 1940.
