Suggest a wikipedia entry[edit]

How can I suggest that wikipedia entry be written about my organization, which is a notable entity with many online references on it? I want somebody else to write about it since I have a conflict of interest. Haneen Adwan (talk) 08:35, 20 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Haneen Adwan Please make the disclosure asked by the conflict of interest policy. If you are employed by the organization, the Terms of Use require you to make the stricter paid editing disclosure.
My advice is that you forget that Wikipedia exists and go on about the work of your organization. If your organization truly meets the special Wikipedia definition of a notable organization, an independent editor will eventually take note of significant coverage of your organization in independent reliable sources and choose to write about it. That's the best indicator of notability. Wikipedia is not a place to merely tell about an organization and what it does- any article about it must summarize significant coverage- coverage that goes beyond documenting the activities of the orgnanization and goes into detail about what they see as important/significant/influential about the organization. Such sources do not include press releases, interviews, brief mentions, announcements of routine activities, or other primary sources.
There is a place to suggest an article, but it is backlogged to the point of uselessness and any request you make likely won't be acted on for some time, if ever. 331dot (talk) 08:41, 20 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Libraries in Australia, question archived without answer[edit]

Hello, I asked a question a few days ago but my question got archived without being answered. Is it okay to re-ask? -- NotCharizard 🗨 09:14, 20 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You asked for opinions on possibilities of rearranging a fairly obscure list article. Probably no-one had any strong thoughts about the matter one way or another.
I suggest that you WP:Be Bold and go ahead with your intention, correctly announced on the Talk page and with no response in 4 days, of revising the article how you think best. If anybody disagrees with what you do, they can perform the Revert part of the WP:BRD process and you can all proceed with the Discussion. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 94.2.67.173 (talk) 12:12, 20 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Complaint against administrator of Ukrainian Wikipedia[edit]

[Serious attacks on named user redacted] Baibuzy1 (talk) 09:30, 20 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You need to present your evidence on the Ukrainian Wikipedia. If you have off wiki evidence you should present it to their arbitration committee. Cabayi (talk) 09:37, 20 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank You, Cabayi, for help, I'll do it — Preceding unsigned comment added by Baibuzy1 (talkcontribs) 10:40, 20 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Balance of content[edit]

OK, this is not about WP:BALANCE. but what is the guidance/policy on ensuring that an article has a suitable degree of balance between covering different aspects that fit within the article's overall subject matter? For instance, suppose there was an article on 19th century ships and it was largely about warships and very little about merchant ships (of which there were many more), the article would be deficient by having unbalanced content. ThoughtIdRetired TIR 15:59, 20 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there! There is no policy that I could find, however, it it probably best to find a reasonable balance of information. Sage or something (talk) 16:43, 20 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@ThoughtIdRetired: We have two "meta-policies" to use when there is no relevant guideline or policy: editorial judgement and consensus. You are an editor. If you feel that an article should be modified to make it more encyclopedic, then make the improvement. If another editor disagrees, they can revert your change, and you can then discuss the change on the article's talk page to try to reach a consensus. See WP:BRD. If you think your change needs to be discussed before you make it, then start on the the article's talk page. In the early days we tried hard to avoid prescriptive or proscriptive guidelines and to rely on the two meta-policies, adding new guidelines only when experience made it clear they were needed. For your hypothetical case, You could propose to split the article into three, converting the main article into a brief overview and adding separate articles for the warships and the commercial ships. -Arch dude (talk) 17:54, 20 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Recently Deceased[edit]

Is there any guidance as to how to deal with transitioning a BLP to recently deceased and why deceased people have fewer privacy rights than living persons which is generally true legally as well, right? Technophant (talk) 17:26, 20 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

There doesn't seem to be any WP essay concerning the transition from BLP to recently deceased article. If it takes too long to make appropriate changes to articles (verb tenses, changes in categories, etc.), Template:Recent death can be placed on top of the article to avoid edit conflicts. As for the question about legal privacy rights, well, that's out of scope for this help desk. Tutwakhamoe (talk) 22:11, 20 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
WP:BDP is a section about the recently dead or probably dead. TSventon (talk) 18:55, 21 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Use of anchor links to refer to additional info within the same article[edit]

Is there a guideline for using internal anchor links to connect related info within the same article, like an internal "see also" link? Or is this discouraged?

Example:

Para A: "Info about some Thing. (See also: [#link]Para B[/#link])"

Para B (elsewhere in the article): "More info about the Thing."

Thanks. Tsavage (talk) 17:47, 20 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I haven't found a policy on the question. Template:See also makes clear that this is possible. There might be something in MOS:LINK, but I didn't see anything on a quick scan. ColinFine (talk) 10:43, 21 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Tsavage: Help:Self link mentions that it can be: [a] useful application is links from article leads or overview sections to detail sections buried deeper in the same article if it happens to be a rather large one, but as nearly each article has its own table of contents, it's usually redundant. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 13:30, 21 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! Seems to be largely a use-common-sense situation. Help:Self link is useful to keep in mind. In the case at hand, making the ToC a quite granular, and moving the bulk of info on a particular subject to one location while keeping any other references brief seems to have mostly solved things so far. But there may be cases where the same info fits in more than one place, and would be redundant if repeated, so maybe self-links. Anyhow, question answered and thanks again! Great Lakes articles[edit]

Why article Great Lakes, as well as articles of individual lakes in this system, use imperial units first, despite that all lakes except one are also in Canada, a country that uses metric units? Should articles that have strong historical ties to Canada use metric units first? --40bus (talk) 19:50, 20 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Censur of Jehovahs Witnesses[edit]

Hvad blev der lige af Jehovas Vidner i den danske udgave af Pittsburgh?

Her fra den engelske! Pittsburgh is additionally where Jehovah's Witnesses traces its earliest origins, and was the host of the 2009 G20 Pittsburgh summit.

Der er da vist nok en redaktør der skal skiftes ud.

Venlig hilsen Søren Olsen, Danmark 2.108.45.190 (talk) 20:01, 20 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi IP Editor. This is the English Wikipedia. If you have any questions about the Danish Wikipedia, please go to https://da.wikipedia.org/ Qcne (talk) 20:18, 20 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I happen to be Danish and can read your post but this help desk is for the English Wikipedia. Wikipedia languages and their articles are edited independently. Concerns about the Danish Wikipedia belong there, not here. The English article Pittsburgh is 32 times larger than the Danish da:Pittsburgh so I'm not surprised this isn't mentioned in Danish. I see no reason to suspect censorship and you can edit it yourself by clicking one of the "Redigér" links. They do have an article about Jehovah's Witnesses: da:Jehovas Vidner. The infobox says founded in Pittsburgh. PrimeHunter (talk) 20:28, 20 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

"Electoral District" table makes the whole page appear smaller.[edit]

Here: John Kasich, the "Electoral District" table extends to the right, beyond all other text on this page. This reduces the size of all the other text/ images to accommodate the extra wide table. Can this table's width be equal to all other text, so that the whole page renders normal size? Thank you, -- Ooligan (talk) 22:38, 20 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Ooligan: There is no "Electoral District" in John Kasich. Do you mean John Kasich#Electoral history? It looks normal to me in Firefox and three other tested browsers. If the window is too narrow for the whole table then the text size doesn't change but I just have to scroll right to see the right side of the table. Maybe you activated a zoom function in your browser. Does it help to log out, or press Ctrl+0 if you have a Windows browser? PrimeHunter (talk) 23:51, 20 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@PrimeHunter, Yes, Electoral History. I now see the table has "hide" on the top right. When I hide the table, the page displays normally. Can the table "default" setting start at hiding the table with a choice by the to expand the table if they wish? --Ooligan (talk) 00:13, 21 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Ooligan: Hiding by default is against MOS:DONTHIDE, and I have never heard of your problem. What is your browser and operating system, and does it help to log out? PrimeHunter (talk) 00:37, 21 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@PrimeHunter, the explanation is enough. Thank you, --Ooligan (talk) 07:17, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

User:Thebas1[edit]

I recently received a WikiLove message from a new user Thebas1. The message was random gibberish. Checking their global account, they've made eight similar edits on Wikimedia Commons, and also vandalized the talk page of a picture of Winston Churchill.

I do not know how to approach this issue, and what actions should be done; and is there a better place to report this? Roasted (talk) 02:13, 21 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Château de Jouy-en-Josas[edit]

Dear all. I hope you are doing well. Please may I kindly request your help for the following article : Draft:Château de Jouy-en-Josas. It is a French castle and the article is a translation of the French one : fr:Château de Jouy (Jouy-en-Josas). Please do not hesitate to modify directly the article. Thanks a lot in advance. It has been declined because of sourcing problems. Also, there are way too many images. These may look nice, but per WP:NOTGALLERY there should not be multiple images just for the sake of it. Images should be integrated with the text.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 07:25, 21 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
"Canal" is not the right word for that body of water. Maybe "lake" or "pond"? Maproom (talk) 07:56, 21 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
One of the references is to a PDF, seemingly publicity material for a school. But the PDF is at some family's website. This is rather surprising. -- Hoary (talk) 12:22, 21 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I now realise that several of the images in the article are not genuine photographs, nor reproductions of paintings, but machine-generated. Those are works of fiction, and as such have no place in an encyclopedia. Maproom (talk) 14:37, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Wrong information given in article of religious violence in India[edit]

In it was written that Hindu activities start violence in India but the truth is that Hindu activities just motivate people to follow their religion and rituals. It is depicted wrong in article of religious violence in India. The truth is that Muslim activities, politician, priest motivate Muslims of India to increase their population and follow to Muslim Emperors' ideology of Gazwa-e-Hind means conversation of all Hindus to Muslim and capture the territory, wealth, etc. through violence. 2409:40D4:2008:3242:7E:69FF:FEB0:29F8 (talk) 08:24, 21 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

If you have concerns about a particular article's content, you should raise those concerns on the article talk page(seems to be Talk:Religious violence in India). Articles summarize what independent reliable sources say about a topic. If those sources are not accurately summarized, please detail the specific errors. If the sources are accurately summarized, but in error themselves, you will need to raise that with the sources, or offer more current sources. Be aware that transferring a religious conflict to Wikipedia won't be tolerated. We all must work together. 331dot (talk) 08:29, 21 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I want my company to be added to wikipedia[edit]

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Wikipedia content writer to create a comprehensive and well-referenced Wikipedia page for our company, Gamateks. I'm not seeing English-language sources that would attest to Gamateks' notability. You'll probably to find someone who can read Turkish. But please be aware that most people offering to create a Wikipedia article for payment are scammers. Maproom (talk) 14:22, 21 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
There is some useful advice here Wikipedia:Articles for creation/Scam warning. Theroadislong (talk) 14:32, 21 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
One option is to create a Draft article and source it according to Wikipedia standards then request that it be reviewed for inclusion in the encyclopedia. I think that is the best option for you. Now, you should ALSO be sure that editing Wikipedia about your company is consistent with your company's internet contributions policy; I at one time edited my own company's article here and elicited a chain of events that led to revisions to the company's contributions policy. Be careful with this; it can come back to bite you if you are not careful (or lucky or very valued at your firm). --User:Ceyockey (talk to me) 02:14, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reset password/assign email address to account using previous password?[edit]

Hello - it looks like my password was changed, and I don't remember changing it (but I probably did per Occam). Assuming I did it, my browser password manager either didn't save the password properly, or it went to the wrong account, and I've not been able to find the new one. I still have access to my old password, and I'm signed in on one specific computer, but I can't find a way to reset my password or bind an email address (I could have sworn this was tied to my old personal email, but I appear to have never set that up...).

I've only gotten back into editing recently as a way to keep my research skills sharp; I could just make a new account, but I'm a bit attached to this one since it's a chance to redeem some of my teenage idiocy from when I first made it back in the noughts.

Is there a way to attach an email address or to use my old password to set up a new one? Thanks! Fishsicles (talk) 13:23, 21 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Fishsicles: There should be a section in your preferences called Preferences → User profile → Email options, which should have a button that allows you to change an email address; presumably it'd also allow you to add one. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 13:35, 21 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'd already tried this; unfortunately it requires my current password. Fishsicles (talk) 13:38, 21 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you - I've set that up now, and I'll get in touch on that route once I have the time to figure out all the process (and are logged in to the right email accounts). Should probably set up a PGP key as well... Fishsicles (talk) 17:32, 21 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Dollar sign in section header[edit]

In the article Jet Lag: The Game, the section header Season 10 reads "Au$tralia" but renders as "Au\$tralia" in the table of contents for me. Apparently this isn't universal (LouisOrr27 said it looked fine on their end), so I'm not exactly sure what can cause this sort of glitch to occur. Any help would be appreciated. Cerebral726 (talk) 13:56, 21 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Cerebral726 It certainly looked like a $ to me, so I changed it. Mike Turnbull (talk) 14:06, 21 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The intent is that it is supposed to be a "$". The problem is that it renders as "/$". So I guess I'm the only one who sees it as "/$" which is odd. Cerebral726 (talk) 14:12, 21 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Why is it supposed to be a $? I would have thought that the name of the season would be the same as the name of the country it was set in. However, you are welcome to revert my edit if there is some reason it is intentional: it was added on 8 May in this edit by User:SnowyNix. Mike Turnbull (talk) 14:19, 21 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The season is titled Au$tralia because it is a gambling themed season. Cerebral726 (talk) 14:27, 21 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It's an issue with the Vector Legacy (2010) skin, I use Vector 2022 and it is fine but when I switched to Legacy (2010) it appeared as "/$". LouisOrr27 (talk) 14:44, 21 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi IP editor. I am afraid I do not understand the question - could you try re-phrasing it? Qcne (talk) 15:37, 21 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It sounds as if you are trying to add a "How to" item, or perhaps a "righting wrongs" item to Wikipedia articles. However virtuous or useful the information may be, that is not what Wikipedia is for.
If you can find a reliable independent source discussing the issue - not just giving advice, but discussing why this is an issue - discuss this on the article's talk page and get consensus to add the information to the article. ColinFine (talk) 17:06, 21 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Threatening me[edit]

Hi, a user has threatened to ban me due to an edit war, however he broke the rules he said to me and is refusing to talk to me properly and is only giving me links, but the links are only reiterating that you need to discuss and he is not discussing with me at all. This genuinely worries me because I don't want him to use his power to ban me and I feel it is unjust at the same time. What can I do? Because the way he is threatening me with a ban feels discriminatory because he has a higher position on the Wikipedia ladder. I'm autistic and have fun editing a lot. ILoveSport2006 (talk) 23:25, 21 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You and 98Tigerius should discuss this on Talk:2024 FIVB Volleyball Women's Nations League (rather than on your user talk page) and attempt to reach agreement. Other editors may or may not join the discussion. (Incidentally, 98Tigerius has mentioned the possibility of a block. You have talked about a ban. A block isn't a ban: if you're interested, see the third paragraph of Wikipedia:Banning policy. 98Tigerius cannot either block you or ban you; you cannot either block 98Tigerius or ban them.) Meanwhile, it's good to hear that you enjoy editing Wikipedia. -- Hoary (talk) 02:33, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
ILoveSport2006, nearly 15 years ago when I was a new editor, a more experienced editor warned me about edit warring, and ever since, I have been very careful to avoid edit warring. So, my advice to you is to be very careful to avoid edit warring. Also, article talk pages are the best places by far to discuss article content. Help: Edit summary says that edit summaries are for a brief explanation of an edit and that edit summaries are not for explaining every detail, writing essays about "the truth", or long-winded arguments with fellow editors. Please follow that advice. Cullen328 (talk) 04:55, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for replying, I appreciate it. However, one of the main problems I have had is that he is not responding to me properly. Personally, I wouldn't even call it a conversation since he is only responding in already made words. He called my table unnecessary and irrelevant and when I replied saying I thought it was rude, I got nothing back, only auto generated links. He hasn't explained why he doesn't think the table isn't useful at all, just links. I think he is trying to scare me away with these links and it bothers me because I have never encountered someone like this. ILoveSport2006 (talk) 11:31, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
ILoveSport2006, no one is trying to scare you away. We all value productive colleagues. Sometimes when an argument has already been made and a decision reached, we'll just point people at the conversation or guideline rather than rehashing the whole thing.
If you've read through all the pages you've been given links to, and still have questions about why they might apply to your particular situation, then you'll be able to ask the kind of informed questions that are more likely to elicit a thought out response. If it seems like you're not reading and understanding the information you've been given, then why would the other person choose to invest their time in explaining things you could have learnt by reading the pages they've already pointed you towards? Folly Mox (talk) 11:52, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No decision has been reached over the table. That's false. He called the table unnecessary and irrelevant and I am taking offence because it is not constructive criticism and I think differently. So people on Wikipedia did not point him to this conversation, he chose to make an unconstructive comment with no evidence and no decision was reached. ILoveSport2006 (talk) 14:01, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Have you read through those links? – robertsky (talk) 14:24, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Is anyone listening to me? He IS NOT discussing with me. Plus he is not following WP:BRD nor WP:STATUSQUO, which both talks about dialogue and getting a better understanding of why it was reverted, and I am trying to follow these rules, but HE isn't. He deleted my table with no constructive dialogue and has not told how the table could be improved. He BROKE the WP:3RR rule, I didn't. Why are you not telling him he broke the rules. @Folly Mox @Robertsky, I could be wrong, but both your comments both come across as if I am in the wrong. ILoveSport2006 (talk) 14:44, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Hoary I brought back the table but added a Disputed Inclusion tag. Is this okay? ILoveSport2006 (talk) 14:58, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Might be worth taking it to WT:VBALL, but I'm pretty sure Round by Round tables like this are deprecated. Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 15:37, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Nope. Just trying to get a baseline of your understanding of the WP:MOS. But if you are already clear about the MOS, then it is just right to clarify which part of the MOS you are not in line with.
As for WP:BRD, if this was the first edit Special:Diff/1224836970 that was being reverted, the onus is on you to open the discussion with the editor who reverted your edit and not restoring the content in the reverted edit until a discussion is concluded or there is no response to the discussion for a while. You tried with a response on your talk page. However, there is no evidence that they saw the message unfortunately, not especially if they had just been dropping messages via a semi automated tool. (I don't use that tool, so I am not sure if they had the settings to add your talk page to the watch list or had that settings enabled. And if one is a frequent vandalism patroller, one's watchlist can be overwhelmingly large to the point that your reply to your talk page may have not been noticed by them.) At the very least, pinging them in your message on your talk page via re or similar template/mechanism would have notified them.
What I am seeing here is likely that some messages are not being crossed on the same frequency on both sides, and from now on, nudge the other party to engage with you on the article's talk page. They have been pinged here earlier, but unsure if they are aware of the message you place on the article's talk page. To be certain, drop a friendly message on their talk page to remind them to check the article's talk page. Messages on their talk page are typically should not be missed. – robertsky (talk) 15:39, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Robertsky I understand your point, it is only because in the past, I have tried to be civil with people in the past and they would say rude comments like I don't really care about that concerning a Floorball article and another account made a personal attack on me. So that's why I get touchy with asking people about things relating to disputes on article, because at times, I have had comments that have been borderline nasty. ILoveSport2006 (talk) 21:44, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
ILoveSport2006, I'm sorry I made you feel like I thought you were in the wrong. I'm actually almost entirely ignorant of style guidelines regarding sport articles. I just wanted to try to reassure you that no one is trying to drive you away or threatening to block your account. The words you opened this thread with seemed to indicate an unfamiliarity with the standard user warning templates and I was just trying to explain what might be going on in a way that would help you feel less attacked. My apologies if that backfired. Folly Mox (talk) 18:02, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It's fine.
Although can I ask, I put a dispute tag on the table and asked for opinions regarding the table on the talk page, and 98Tigerius just deleted the table again without me even getting other people's opinions on the table. He has reverted 4 times. Was adding the dispute tag above the table a reasonable idea and was he wrong to delete the table without me even getting other people's opinions? I am just wondering. ILoveSport2006 (talk) 21:49, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Hoary, Cullen328, Folly Mox, Robertsky, and Lee Vilenski for explaining things to ILoveSport2006. We discussed it on the talk page but it's not going anywhere as there's no other pov involve. I already reach out to related WikiProjects so active members can join but see ILoveSport2006's reply here and here. Newcomer task[edit]

It appears that the “so called” Newcomer task is already a disaster in progress. Despite being a regular editor I had not heard of it until 17 May 2024, when I noticed a piece of text in Highway 1 (Queensland) had been removed and replaced with identical text, and with no explanation other than “Newcomer task” on 16 May 2024.

I asked the question “How can the removal of information be described as a newcomer task?”. I have since been accused of making an unreferenced removal. How can this occur, and just what is a “Newcomer task”?

When this is sorted out please tak a look at Abernethy Road, where I asked a similar question and have not received any response. Downsize43 (talk) 05:16, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Downsize43: Those "Newcomer task" tags link to this page which should explain more thoroughly than I will be able to do here. Essentially, they are edits by new editors made to pages tagged as needing cleanup. It isn't an endorsement of the edit in any way, it is just intended to flag that the editor is new and was brought to that article rather than finding it on their own. Tollens (talk) 05:21, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'll additionally note that the edit of 15 May on Abernethy Road didn't remove text and then replace it with identical text, it instead added two citations. Tollens (talk) 05:24, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Also on Highway 1 (Queensland), you may have been looking at the wrong diff. The edit flagged as a newcomer task did not remove any information – the edit removing information was another editor undoing the previous "newcomer task" edit because it was unsourced. Tollens (talk) 05:26, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, Downsize43. My first observation is that newcomers often make mistakes, and that is not surprising. I suggest that you read Wikipedia:Growth Team features which explains newcomer tasks in great detail. If you still have concerns, then Wikipedia talk:Growth Team features is probably the best place to discuss them. Cullen328 (talk) 05:30, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Finally found something on Archive 1. Hardly the best place for it. Urgently need to get it "out there" somewhere and let the world know. Downsize43 (talk) 06:41, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Downsize43: Both your descriptions of what happened in the newcomer task are incorrect so I wonder whether you know how diffs work. In the page history [1], click the "prev" link in the line tagged with "Newcomer task" to get [2]. The left-hand side is before the edit and the right-hand side is after. The edit added this text: The highway is part of the famous "Big Lap" on National Route 1. A Google search shows it's correct but it was unsourced and maybe not important enough for the lead so somebody reverted it in this edit. This time "Newcomer task" is on the left side which is before the edit so the removal is not itself the newcomer task. See more at Help:Diff. PrimeHunter (talk) 09:23, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Whichever way you look at it the fact remains that the replacement of the previously removed text has no reference, therefore it is entitled to be questioned or removed. I was merely questioning why there was no reference for the added “fact”. Downsize43 (talk) 07:22, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Update New Description for Company Profile[edit]

Hi Team,

I want to update Godrej Properties current description. Could you please help me on this? 182.78.53.202 (talk) 06:16, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It depends on what you want to say and whether there is a conflict of interest involved in some way with the company; see also WP:BOSS. It also has to be said that Godrej Properties may have difficulty meeting the general notability guideline in its current form due to an excess of primary sourcing.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 07:06, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
• On Talk:Godrej Properties, make your edit request(s). Be sure to make it clear that you're an employee of the company that's the subject of the article. -- Hoary (talk) 09:10, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

correcting an error of fact in an article[edit]

In the article on Frederick Russell Burnham, in the "Mexico" section, it describes a presidential summit taking place in 1909. It lists a number of agencies providing security and includes the FBI. The FBI did not exist in 1909. 2600:6C40:5800:4BD:7C19:89AF:F8E1:243E (talk) 15:53, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Every article has a talk page, in this case Talk: Frederick Russell Burnham, which is where discussion of article content should typically take place. Note that our article on the Federal Bureau of Investigation does not quite back up your own claim. 57.140.16.48 (talk) 16:02, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Changing infobox to...?[edit]

So I'm in a bit of a conundrum here. I wanted to update Topps but apparently, it was acquired by Fanatics in 2022. How would I go around changing it? Is it a subsidiary now? Klinetalkcontribs 15:59, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Do you want to find out if Topps is a subsidiary or how to update the infobox? this suggests that Topps is a subsidiary. TSventon (talk) 18:41, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@TSventon Update the infobox to a subsidiary, seems complicated for a first time affair so some guidance would be helpful. Klinetalkcontribs 00:42, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Kline, the infobox pages are usually helpful. I checked Template:Infobox company and found
"type
Type of ownership in the company (not their legal form of incorporation), wiki-linked where appropriate. To list percentages owned of a private company, use the ownership parameter. Available types:
Private
Public
Subsidiary
Division"
So Topps could be a division or a subsidiary.
If you want help finding information about the company you could try Wikipedia:Reference desk/Humanities. TSventon (talk) 05:29, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Map alignment[edit]

At Timnath, I tried to add a couple of locator maps. Why don't they align right even when I use the parameter float=right ? Edit: and why one of the label has "class=notpageimage" written under it? trespassers william (talk) 21:04, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Danny lost: They are both at the right margin for me. Where do you see them and what is your browser? "class=notpageimage" ended in the wrong place because there was a wrong ]]. I have removed it.[4] PrimeHunter (talk) 22:36, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you.
I saw this on Chrome, both pc and mobile. On mobile I use the monobook style w/ the option "Enable responsive mode (Adapt layout to screen size on mobile) - on. Maybe it's turning it off that helped? When logged off, on mobile both maps are center-page. But I guess this is a default override behaviour?
trespassers william (talk) 11:36, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Danny lost: It's apparently a feature of responsive mode. If the window is deemed too narrow to get a good layout by placing text to the left of an image then float right is ignored. It doesn't matter whether location map templates were used. PrimeHunter (talk) 12:02, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Blocked?![edit]

I tried to add information about a company I co-founded and received a "Blocked notice" from Wikipedia. I have no idea why this is the case and would like the Block removed asap. I do not understand how to do this. Lmfertig (talk) 21:49, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Lmfertig: What was the article and what username were you using? DuncanHill (talk) 21:52, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Lmfertig, editing with a conflict of interest is a serious problem, especially if undisclosed. Please comply with that behavioral guideline. Cullen328 (talk) 08:07, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Picture[edit]

Hi!

I am creating my profile on Wiki and I cannot upload a picture I took myself and own - there should be no issue but I receive a notification (We could not determine whether this file is suitable for Wikimedia Commons. Please only upload photos that you took yourself with your camera, or see what else is acceptable. See the guide to make sure the file is acceptable and learn how to upload it on Wikimedia). Can you help please?

Jana Jana Koci (talk) 02:17, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not quite sure what exactly did you mean by "profile" here. If you meant User Page, which is a page that tells other editors about your activities on Wikipedia, then personal photos are not necessary. If you meant a Wikipedia article, however, please note that creating an article about yourself or anyone/anything related to you is strongly discouraged.
I see that you've already uploaded a photo of yourself. If that's the image in question, I think it is ready to be used already. I would agree with the notification in that it is hard to tell that you took the photo all by yourself. Tutwakhamoe (talk) 03:25, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Jana Koci, you have created a draft for an article about yourself. This is not a good idea: please read and digest Wikipedia:Autobiography. -- Hoary (talk) 07:57, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Chen Zihan -[edit]

The birth date discrepancy is already covered in the biography, so I fail to see what your point is. Cullen328 (talk) 06:51, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
