Gachapin (ガチャピン) and Mukku (ムック) are a pair of Japanese costumed characters. Gachapin is a bucktoothed green dinosaur, and Mukuu is a red Yeti. They first appeared in the 1973 Fuji TV children's television program Hirake! Ponkikki, and have subsequently appeared in a wide variety of other media.
Character descriptions
Gachapin has magical "energy balls" on his wrists that grant him courage, while Mukku has a small propeller on the top of his head, similar to a propeller cap.
History
Gachapin joined Twitter in 2009,[1] and for a period of time was the most-followed Japanese Twitter account until he was surpassed by Masayoshi Son in 2011.[2]
In 2018, Gachapin was appointed as an ambassador for Kumamoto Prefecture
Performers
From their first appearance in 1974 until 2014, Gachapin was voiced by Kuniko Amamiya and Mukku was voiced by Shigeharu Matsuda. Owing to the age of both actors, both roles were recast in April 2014 with actors whose identities have not been disclosed.[3]
