Sky Princess is the fourth Royal-class cruise ship currently being built for Princess Cruises by Fincantieri at their shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy. She was ordered in December 2015[1] and on 30 November 2017, Princess Cruises announced that she would be named Sky Princess, in honor of a previous Princess vessel carrying the same name.[2][3]
History
Design and construction
Construction of Sky Princess began in November 2016 with the steel cutting of the ship's bow.[1] She was floated out in February 2019[4] and completed her sea trials in September 2019.[5] She will be delivered to Princess Cruises in mid-October 2019.[6][7]
The ship will measure 145,000 GT and has a capacity of 3,660 passengers.[1] Her accommodations will include two debuting styles on Princess: the "Sky Suites", on Deck 18, the Sky Deck, and six "oceanview" rooms, dubbed "Premium Oceanview" rooms, on Deck 17, the Sun Deck.[8][9]
Itineraries
Sky Princess will offer a four-day pre-inaugural cruise on 16 October 2019 to travel agents to sail from Trieste to Athens with a call in Kotor.[10] It will hold its official inaugural cruise on 20 October 2019, a seven-day cruise sailing between Athens and Barcelona.[11] Sky Princess will sail her inaugural season in the Mediterranean in the fall of 2019 before repositioning to Port Everglades, arriving on 1 December 2019.[2] Two three-day inaugural cruises will take place due to high demand, with the first embarking on 1 December and the second on 4 December, with both cruising between Port Everglades and Princess Cays.[12]
For her debuting Caribbean season, she will launch an alternating series of seven-day Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries round-trip from Port Everglades between December 2019 and April 2020.[13] For her first summer cruise season, Sky Princess will embark on her inaugural Northern Europe season, sailing the Baltic Sea, with 10-/11-day voyages calling on ports in Scandinavia[14] and will then reposition to New York City to sail along the eastern Canada and New England coastline in Fall 2020.[15]
