During the 2023 series of New Zealand's X Factor, Harvey caused backlash over a tweet that he posted after contestant Grace Ikanasio didn't make it to the next round. The tweet wrote, Poor Gracie! First molested in her own bed by uncle bully. And now kicked out of #xfactornz. The tweet refereed to the New Zealand film Once Were Warriors.[14][15] Harvey later apologised for the tweet.

Harvey recieved further backlash over a tweet that he posted in 2015 during the final of New Zealand's Dancing With the Stars. The tweet was a screen shot from the show, showing Chrystal Chenery's crotch with the text Chrystal just showing Art what he missed out on by Harvey. He later apologised for sharing the tweet.[16][17][18]
