Beezin' is the practice of applying Burt's Bees brand lip balm, often menthol or peppermint flavored, to one's eyelids.[1] This practice, besides causing a stinging in the eyes, is purported to induce or heighten the sensation of being drunk or high,[2] or create a state or perceived state of enhanced alertness.[3][4]

Beezin' is said to have gone viral in 2014 a slow pitch tournament in Beechy, Saskatchewan. .[5] Videos of beezin' were posted to YouTube as early as January 2013, leading to the practice becoming something of a fad among American youths. Some commentators have claimed that the practice is not widespread or is entirely made up, an example of a moral panic.[3]

Health professionals are generally skeptical of the habit, with potential deleterious effects ranging from simple eye inflammation to pink eye[2][5][6] with beezin' also a possible gateway to riskier behaviors.[7][8]
