  • When used in compounds, it is almost always pronounced as (kkwa) due to the interfix -ㅅ- (-s-). The interfix is not written in fully Sino-Korean compounds, but is written when the first element is a native word, as in the example of 사다샛과 (sadasaetgwa) above.
  • When used in isolation, it is pronounced as (gwa) in formal language and (kkwa) colloquially.
