Treatment with ovarian steroids may be (a) substitutional, (b) inhibitory and (c) stimulatory. Inhibitory administration will be discussed in detail on p. 360 in the chapter on steroid contraception, and stimulatory treatment on p. 332 in the chapter dealing with treatment of anovulation.
