Losing voice assistance on Maps

I’m having a problem I have already seen posted but wanted to add my two cents. My Maps voice assistant helps me leave the driveway then is silent. I travel alone frequently and to places I haven’t been frequently, so I really depend on it. The frustration of thinking it’s working then getting to congested areas, ie. CHICAGO, and it’s back to the 80’s. No help. So I prefer maps to google as far as the interface goes, (Irish voice is fun) but it is so unreliable I daren’t use it for trip to the unknown. Oddly, it tends to work more reliably on my way back from a trip, this leads me to think it has something to do with cell towers, location? Why on earth not working to a place, but yes on the way back? More than once. Exactly the same issue with my iPhone 13, and now my 15pro. !??????

Turn voice directions on or off or change the volume

Do one of the following:

  • With turn-by-turn directions showing, tap the route card at the bottom of the screen, tap Audio, then choose an option.
  • Before you start your next route, go to Settings  > Maps > Navigation & Guidance, then choose an option (below Navigation Voice Volume).

See Change audio settings for turn-by-turn directions in Maps on iPhone.
