    Interview Summary
    Tatyana Samuilovna Gildiner, born November 13, 1918, recalls growing up in a religious Jewish family; her schooling, graduation, and work in a chemical laboratory; being the secretary of the Komsomol organization in her factory; the bombardment of Minsk; establishment of, moving into, and life in the Jewish ghetto; different Aktions in the ghetto and the loss of her family; her avoiding being killed during the Aktions; being aided by a German officer; working for a German Army unit as a laundress; assisting partisans in the ghetto; being sent to Bergen-Belsen concentration camp and life in that camp; her liberation by British forces; her return to Minsk; her poor health, contracting tuberculosis, and her five years in a hospital as a result of her experiences; her difficulty finding work in Minsk as a result of Soviet antisemitism; and her life after the war.

    Nathan Beyrak, project director for the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, Oral History Branch, coordinated the interview with Tatyana Samuilovna Gildiner on July 31, 1995. The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Archives received the tapes of the interview in September 1995.
