Marvin Hall DAYTON — Marvin Eugene Hall, 76 years of age, died on Thursday morning, June 20th,2024, at home. Marvin was born in Davin, West Virginia on June 2, 1948, to the late Melvin Glyndene Hall and Opal Beatrice Gentry Hall. He spent his youth in Justiceville, Kentucky and Whitwell, Tennessee, before moving with his family to Dayton, Tennessee in 1960. He spent the majority of his adult life in Dayton. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, sharing his faith, sharing his time with family and friends, and being a Christian Illusionist, traveling, golfing, fishing, and enjoyed watching the University of Tennessee football, basketball and baseball games. Marvin was of the Lutheran faith. On June, 7th, 1970, Marvin was baptized and confirmed his faith in his Lord at Heavenly Host Lutheran Church in Cookeville, Tennessee. He met his wife, Ingrid Elisabeth Ahten Hall, at Tennessee Technological University and they were married on June 20, 1970. He and Ingrid were blessed with a set of twins, Kimberly Ann Henson of Stuttgart, Arkansas, and Kristofer Brian Hall of Grovetown, Georgia, as well as two grandsons, Jeff David Henson and Christian Blake Henson, both of Stuttgart, Arkansas. He was a Charter Member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Evensville, Tennessee for 37 years. While a member there, he gladly served his Lord as an Elder for most of those years. He also served as President, Vice President, Treasurer of the congregation, and as adult and children’s Sunday School teacher for many of those years. Most recently he has been a member of First Lutheran Church in Chattanooga, Tennessee where he is an usher, a member of the Men’s Fellowship group and occasionally did the children’s program during the church service. Marvin was a 1966 graduate of Rhea Central High School in Dayton, Tenn. He attended Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville, Tennessee, where he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Music Education in 1970. After graduation, he was a Junior High School and High School band director for 8 years. He was the band director at Rhea County High School from 1974 to 1976 and at Bledsoe County High School from 1976 to 1978. After teaching for eight years, he went to Chattanooga State Technical Community College and graduated in 1980 with an Associate of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering. He then worked for Tennessee Valley Authority for 23 years. He worked at Watts Bar Nuclear Plant and also at the main office in Chattanooga and retired from TVA in the position of Billing Analyst. Marvin was very involved in the Boy Scouts of America program. The positions he held with the Boy Scouts of America, Mountain District, Cherokee Area Council were as follows: Den Leader/Cubmaster of Cub Scout Pack 3271 from 1983 to 1987; Mountain District Training Staff from 1984 to 1993; Mountain District Training Chairman from 1991 to 1993; Mountain District Roundtable Staff from 1984 to 1989; Mountain District Camporee Staff (Instructor) from 1989 to 1991; Pow Wow Staffs of 1984, 1985, and 1987; Council Key Scouters? Training Staff in February, 1986; Instructor at the Southeast Region Cub Scout Leaders? Seminar in March, 1986; served on Cub/Boy Scout Roundup Teams, September 1984 to 1992; Committee Chairman of Boy Scout Troop 150 from September, 1986 to September, 1990; Assistant Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 150 from September 1987 to 1990; Commissioner for Cub Scout Pack 3271 and Boy Scout Troop 150 from 1990 to 1993; Committee member of Boy Scout Troop 150 from September 1990 to 1992; Boy Scout Troop 150 Scoutmaster from September 1990 to 1995; Boy Scout Troop 150 Assistant Scoutmaster from 1995 to 2005. He received many awards while working with the local Cub Scout and Boy Scout programs. Among those awards, he was most proud of receiving the Scouters Training Award in November, 1984, the Scouter’s Key in January, 1987, Cub Scout Leader’s Wood Badge Beads in 1988 (after completing the National Wood Badge requirements), Mountain District, Cherokee Area Council Award of Merit in January, 1989 and the Cherokee Area Council Silver Beaver Award in May, 1993. While he was Boy Scout Troop 150 Scoutmaster, Marvin and Ingrid’s son, Kris, became an Eagle Scout. He was also a member to Tapping All Potential (TAP), a community group supporting talented elementary students in Dayton City School. In 2001, he began to dabble with magic and performed magic at Veteran’s Day programs at the Rhea County Schools for several years. He also performed his Christian Illusions with Christian messages in churches of all faiths, especially Lutheran churches, in the Chattanooga area. He was preceded in death by his parents Melvin and Opal Hall of Dayton, Tennessee, brother William (Bill) Hall of Elba, Alabama, his brother Melvin G. Hall, Jr. of Dayton, Tennessee, and sister-in-law Margaret (Peggie) Hall of Dayton, Tennessee. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ingrid Hall, of Dayton, Tennessee, children Kimberly (John) Henson of Stuttgart, Arkansas and Kristofer (Kimberly) Hall of Grovetown, Georgia, and grandchildren, Jeff Henson and Christian Henson of Stuttgart, Arkansas. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Judy Hall of Elba, Alabama, sister Retta (Randy) Ford, of Dayton, Tennessee, brother Dale (Penny) Hall of Glen Burnie, Maryland, 7 nieces and nephews and their spouses, and 7 grand-nieces and grand nephews. The family is being cared for by Vanderwall Funeral Home in Dayton, Tennessee. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at 4 p.m. Celebration of Life Service for Marvin will be held on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at 7 p.m. at Vanderwall Funeral Home with the Reverend Clifford Herd officiating. He will be laid to rest on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at 11 a.m. in the Gospels section of the cemetery at Berry Highland Memorial Funeral Home, 5315 Kingston Pike, in Knoxville, Tennessee, 37919.
