The chairman of HSBC and the chief executive of the London Stock Exchange are among the business leaders named in the King’s birthday honours.

Julia Hoggett, who has led London stock exchange for the past three years, has been appointed a dame for services to business and finance in Britain.

The daughter of the celebrated judge Baroness Hale of Richmond, Hoggett, 50, took over at the financial markets operator after moving from the Financial Conduct Authority, the industry regulator. She had worked previously at Merrill Lynch and JP Morgan.

It will provide a welcome boost for the stock market chief executive, who has come under pressure over the past year amid a challenging period for London’s equity markets.

Mark Tucker, 66, the HSBC chairman, has
