Mikel Arteta praised his Arsenal history-makers as he contemplated the chance to deliver the first Premier League title in two decades for his club next Sunday.

A victory at Old Trafford ensured the title chase with Manchester City will last until Arteta’s final game of the season, at home to Everton on Sunday, although Pep Guardiola’s defending champions will regain control if they win away to Arsenal’s rivals Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday.

That fixture left the Arsenal striker Kai Havertz confessing: “I am going to be the biggest fan of Tottenham ever! Let’s hope for the best.”

But, while Arteta simply laughed when asked if he will be actively supporting his rivals in their clash with City, he did admit he will obviously be hoping
