Leo Asemota: biography

This article is more than 18 years old

About me
I was born in Edo, Nigeria in 1967 and have been working in the UK since 1997. I studied film and photography at the London Institute and began my career at Blues & Soul magazine as photographic art-director-at-large. I have also worked as a Creative Director on various projects for Raw Material Music & Media, London Weekend Television, and 198 Gallery in association with Human Rights Watch International.

I make art in a profusion of styles and media. I have been quietly amassing a diverse and rigorous body of work in film, photography, drawings, artist's books and sculptures. My work can be about art and life, science and identity, individuality and culture, death and history.

In August 2004, I set up the Estate of Leo Asemota (EotLA) to promote and preserve my artistic output. The current administrator of EotLA is Sally Fischer.

My favourite place
My studio in London.
