Synopsis
When New York social climber Maggie is proclaimed the official heir of her Grandpa J. P. MacGillacudy's fortune, her thirty-seven year struggle to obtain her rightful inheritance comes to an end. Soon after learning that she has inherited her grandfather's Gower Gulch mansion and gold mine, Maggie is visited by his ghost, who tells her to go to Gower Gulch and prevent the property from being bulldozed. Unnerved by the apparition, Maggie arms herself with a rolling pin and wastes no time in getting her husband Jiggs and daughter Nora out of their Park Avenue apartment and onto a train bound for Jackass Junction, the nearest stop to Gower Gulch. No sooner do Jiggs, Maggie and Nora approach Gower Gulch than they are greeted by flying bullets from Snake Bite Carter and his henchmen, who try to scare them off. When their stagecoach driver flees, Maggie takes over the reins and drives the coach until they are rescued by Bob Carter, Snake Bite's kind half brother. Snake Bite tells Maggie that the rivalry between the Carters and the MacGillicudys, two of the most powerful clans in Gower Gulch, has been renewed by his outlaw brother, who is trying to get the MacGillicudy gold mine for himself. Arriving in Gower Gulch, Maggie and her family are disappointed to find that the town is a ghost town and that the mansion is old and run-down. Later, Maggie is visited once again by her grandfather's ghost and is warned about the Carters. Bob, who has become smitten with Nora, calls his brother the blacksheep of the family, prompting Snake Bite to challenge him to a gunfight. Jiggs, meanwhile, starts a gold rush to Gower Gulch when he sends his friend, Dinty Moore, a telegram telling him to come out. Dinty brings many of Jiggs's pals with him, including Dugan, who is made sheriff of the town. When it is learned that Maggie is wandering through the nearby hills alone, and that Snake Bite and his men have gone after her, a posse is formed to rescue her. Snake Bite gets to her first, though, and instead of harming her, takes her to George McManus, the creator of her comic strip character. McManus tells Maggie that he put her and Jiggs in the country just to see how they would act in Western surroundings, and she is furious.

Wrestler Bomber Kulkavich's surname is misspelled "Kulkowich" in the onscreen credits. Kulkavich also acted under the name Henry Kulky. Jiggs and Maggie Out West was the last picture of actor Joe Yule, who died at the age of fifty-six, three weeks before the film was released. It was also the fifth and final picture in Monogram's "Jiggs and Maggie" series.
