SAN DIEGO -- Incarcerated former Rep. Randy "Duke" Cunningham was at a federal transit facility in Oklahoma on Friday en route to a low-security Arizona prison work camp where he is scheduled to serve the remainder of his federal sentence.

Cunningham, a Republican from the ritzy San Diego suburb of Rancho Santa Fe, pleaded guilty in November 2005 to accepting $2.4 million in bribes from defense contractors in exchange for government contracts and other favors. He held seats on the powerful House intelligence and appropriations committees.

Cunningham was sentenced last March in San Diego to eight years and four months in prison.

The 65-year-old former Navy flying ace had requested a berth at a prison in California's Central Valley, but his attorney, Lee Blalack, said the Bureau of Prisons decided to assign him to a minimum-security work camp outside Tucson, Ariz.

The prison, about 400 miles east of San Diego, is attached to the medium-security Federal Correctional Institution Tucson.
