WalletHub said it took a “snapshot of America’s current cultural profile” and looked at more than 500 of the largest cities in the United States and compared several indicators to figure out a score of its diversity. Some of the factors the study looked at includ population, race, language, birthplace and ethnicity.
Even though some of the locations aren’t “cities,” WalletHub defined them as such, given their population and the data that was available.
Here is a look at the 10 locations WalletHub considers to be the “most culturally diverse”:
1. Jersey City
2. Gaithersburg, Md.
3. Germantown, Md.
4. Silver Spring, Md.
5. Spring Valley, Nev.
6. New York
7. Oakland, Calif.
8. San Jose
9. Rockville, Md.
10. Kent, Wash.
The city in last place was Parkersburg, W.Va., according to WalletHub.
The study also looked at how the racial makeup of some of the largest cities had changed over time. WalletHub is based in the District and focuses mainly on doing research on personal finances.
