MONROE, La. (KNOE) - The Louisiana Democratic Party issued a statement regarding Governor Jeff Landry’s comments on the LSU Lady Tigers basketball team.

The Lady Tigers received backlash for not being on the court for the National Anthem during their elite eight game. Coach Kim Mulkey said their absence on the court was nothing intentional.

The governor posted on X, formerly Twitter, that student athletes who are not on the court during the anthem should have their scholarships revoked. Landry soon after doubled-down by wearing a LSU shirt on Fox News while reiterating his statement on X.

On April 4, the Louisiana Democratic Party released a statement voicing their discontent with Landry’s comments.
