I work on trauma / PTSD, emotion regulation, depression, anxiety, ADHD, OCD, grief, relationship / boundary issues, health behavior change, stress management, and self-development.
If you’re reading this, I congratulate you on your courage and determination to seek help. Authenticity, self-alliance, and curious exploration are the core themes of my therapy. I view well-being holistically from a biopsychosocial-spiritual lens, i.e. your early life upbringing, biology, social relationships, stressful life events, demographics (e.g. culture), conscious and subconscious thought patterns, emotional skills, and society all influence your mental health. In practice, I blend empirically supported treatments with energy / spiritual work and social justice informed by 10 years of training and practice.

You know your patterns, what triggers you, how you're getting in your own way - but can't seem to translate that insight into a change in how your mind and body respond when you're under stress. You want more confidence and clarity in your life, but self-criticism and anxiety seem to always be below the surface. Maybe you've been in therapy before, but are still struggling to find lasting relief from trauma, anxiety and relationship concerns.

I believe that “trauma is not what happens to us, but what we hold inside in the absence of an empathetic witness.” I work with those who have experienced various forms of trauma, including shock, developmental, medical, relational, and religious trauma. I also work with those experiencing forms of depression, anxiety, relationship issues, and those experiencing systemic and cultural forms of oppression. I believe that everyone has the right to a nurturing and supportive space, and strive towards the ongoing creation of an inclusive environment for all.

My primary focus areas are anxiety, depression, emotion regulation, and stress management.
Sometimes, life can leave us feeling overwhelmed, burned out, or stuck, and we’re often unsure of how to manage it, or even harder, make a change. Adjusting to the unexpected, dealing with transitions, and trying to show up for ourselves while juggling relationships, work, family and responsibilities are all things that can lead to this. While coming to this realization is difficult, taking the next step by reaching out for help can feel like the most overwhelming task. I am here to offer a non-judgmental, supportive, and compassionate space to build fulfillment in your life and help you achieve the growth you’ve been looking for.

We all experience pain--it’s normal. A lot can unsettle us as humans--feelings of anxiety and depression; career and identity development; making meaning of unpleasant thoughts, feelings, sensations, and experiences; and navigating the balance between chaos and control, freedom and responsibility, connectedness and differentiation, action and paralysis. It's no wonder life feels difficult so much of the time! I'm passionate about helping people become more grounded and accepting of themselves as they grapple with these hazards of being human.

My ideal client is ready to do the hard work of making real change in their life. Sometimes, people think change has to be big to start therapeutic services; it doesn’t. Sometimes, learning to breathe, decrease anxiety, and be more mindful of your strengths can become a great asset. Therapy doesn’t have to be forever; sometimes, you just need help getting through the now. I help individuals & families dealing with chronic illnesses and end of life. At times like those, crises often happen: medical conflict, spiritual conflict, familial conflict, financial concerns, housing and food insecurity.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
