US County High Point Links

Greg Slayden has self-identified as interested in climbing to the high points of counties in the United States.

The Aletschhorn dominates the view south from the Monch (1985-08-09).

Greg Slayden contemplates the cloud-capped icy majesty of the Monte Rosa massif, high point of the Swiss Alps (1993-08-14).

Skiing at 13,000 feet on the Emmons Glacier (1999-08-01).

Mount Rainier in winter from the nearby Crystal Mountain ski area (1995-12-23).

Standing on the Summit of North America (1997-05-27).

I have been actively peakbagging since I was ten years old, but I have only completed three significant lists: the New Hampshire 4000-footers, the US State high points, and the 20 "Apex" county high points. Somehow I keep getting started on lists but get distracted by interesting mountains elsewhere that keep me from finishing. This leaves me with many lists where I have made some good progress, but still not near completion.

Right now I am opportunistically getting what I can, with my interests including high-prominence peaks worldwide, plus high points of countries, non-US states/provinces, and US counties. But any peak is fair game, and a quality ascent (or a nice ski descent) is always appreciated.
