What a beautiful place. With the mass amounts of precipitation this winter, the wilderness was a lush green oasis with the creeks and streams running causing us to have to slog at times through or next to a muddy, sloughy trail. We hit the trail about 7:30 in the morning after a pretty restful night at the San Lucia Campground, which now has a fee for camping. That being said I don't how much the fee is, as it was not posted on the sign at the entrance nor on the permit sheets. Back to the beauty of the climb. The trail was pretty easy to follow; a lot of grass growing on the trail at the lower elevations and then up higher it became quite the bushwack due to the overgrowth of the vegetation from the winter precipitation. The trail is quite visible so route finding was not an issue, just the thick bushes and trees that at times had to be pushed through with some added effort.
I highly recommend doing this one sooner rather than later to take advantage of the cooler temps and the wonderful views and everything else that this beautiful location has to offer. |
