Ascent Trip Report

The wife and I started this ascent at 11:30am on 1/14/23. We brought snow shoes and one pair of micro spikes as we weren't sure what to expect. The trail was relatively easy to follow, which was good as we forgot both of our maps at home. The only tricky parts were the very beginning and where the trail splits at the loop back. The very beginning of the hike is not well marked and it is an immediate stream crossing. Terrain was a little icy the whole way but not so bad that it was unavoidable. There was very little snow on the lower section of the path and we never had to break out the snowshoes. My wife did however decide to don the micro spikes. The fork in the path after the yellow arrow about a half mile in could use better signage but at the end of the day it works it's way into a loop with the left fork being steeper and shorter but with more ice, and the right fork being more mellow for the most part but very wet with a few short scrambles mixed in. We took the left path up and reached summit, which seemed to be marked by a non descript concrete square in the ground, around 1:50. There was a look out just past summit but it was not a good viewing day. Opaque white in every direction. Regardless, summit and lookout we're very enjoyable. On the way down we decided to take the loop in lieu of going down the same way we took up. I am very glad we did because it was like being on a completely different mountain. However it was significantly longer than the steeper way up. After a very wet descent we returned to the car at 430.
