I should have parked much, much sooner than I did. If you have a skinny 4wd vehicle, or motorcycle, you can get right to the base of Meade. Otherwise, the road gets pretty narrow and scratchy right after the "private property" fencing on the left side of the road.
As for the hike, you follow the road for a while, until there is a fork to the left. Take that, walk a bit, then abandon the road for any of the game trails going straight up the ridge. It's steep, and seems to go up forever. Eventually, it will open up and you'll be on the ridge. It's a long ridge with several false summits. From the top, you can see everywhere. Utah, Wyoming...I may have even seen Canada. Anyway, I was exhausted at the top and opted for a more direct route down. It worked out fine, not sure if it saved any time, but it was shorter distance. I only had to buswhack for a minute to get back on the road at the bottom, which wasn't even terribly thick. |
